Wildcats set hitting record in sweep over Humboldt State | Local roundup

The Chico State women’s volleyball team set a team record on Friday when it swept Humboldt State at Acker Gym.

In the 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-9) win over the Lumberjacks, the Wildcats set a program record with a .515 hitting percentage on the night.

Chico committed just six errors on 66 swings and delivered 40 kills in their second win over a Humboldt State this season.

Makaela Keeve and Zoe DiNardo led a balanced Chico State attack with 10 kills apiece, while Lizzie Wilson and Kelley Jacome registered nine kills. Between them, the ‘Cats quartet committed just three attack errors the entire night.

Brooke Ono dished out 31 assists, racked up nine digs, had two blocks and a service ace. Kennedy Greenwood also had nine digs to go along with four assists, Jane McNulty added six digs and three aces and Ali Collins had a pair of serves for Chico State.

The Wildcats improved to 9-14 on the season and 5-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Humboldt State lost its ninth straight match to slip to 3-15 overall and 2-13 in conference play.

College men’s soccer

Butte 1, Feather River 1: The Butte College men’s soccer team tied visiting Feather River College on Friday afternoon 1-1.

Quintin Benn-John scored the Roadrunners goal in the 81st minute on an assist from  Idriss Oubrik. Feather River scored on a penalty kick in the 92nd minute to get the draw.  Butte had 16 shots on goal. Austin Matthews made three saves.

Butte (11-3-1, 5-1-1 Golden Valley Conference) will close out the regular season at noon Tuesday at home against Siskiyous.

College women’s soccer

Butte 1, Feather River 0: Former Paradise High product Alison Brott scored the only goal of the game as Roadrunners shut out Feather River in Quincy on Friday. With the victory, Coach Shelby Zuppan‘s team clinched second place in the GVC.

Butte is 5-2 in GVC play and 8-6-1 overall.

Butte (8-6-1, 5-2 GVC) plays next at 2 p.m. Tuesday at home against College of the Siskiyous to close out the regular season. Butte beat Siskiyous 4-0 on Oct. 15.

College men’s basketball

Contra Costa 95, Butte 91: Issac Wood and Tray Wilburn each scored 21 points in a loss at the Las Positas tournament.

Rolontae Knowles added 15 points and Shakwon Lewis pitched in 11 points.

Butte (1-1) plays next at 4 p.m. Wednesday at College of Marin.

High School football

Orland 63, Central Valley 0: Brayden Schumann led the Trojans to the win over the Falcons, rushing for 10 times for 164 yards and four touchdowns.

Grant Foster scored one touchdown and gained 48 yards on two carries. The quarterback also completed two passes for 48 yards and one touchdown.

Andrew Rubio and Cody Baylor also scored for Orland in the final regular season game of the season.

Orland (8-2, 4-1 Northern Athletic League) plays next at 7 p.m. Friday at home against West Valley in a playoff matchup.
