PV boys basketball beats River Valley in home opener | Local roundup

The Pleasant Valley boys basketball team defeated River Valley 80-55 in its season opener Tuesday night at PV.

The Vikings led 43-27 at halftime and held the lead in the second half to secure the win.

Ned Joyce and Noah Thomas led PV in scoring with 17 points each. Chase Mitchell scored 13 points and added six rebounds. Luke Kremer scored 12 points and led the Vikings in rebounds with seven.

As a team PV shot 10-of-20 from the 3-point line.

PV (1-0) plays next in the Rocklin Tournament from Wednesday through Saturday.

West Park 47, Chico High 37: Despite leading 20-15 at halftime, Chico High lost Tuesday at home.

Odin Nielsen led the Panthers in points with 10 and Jordan Lana had eight.

Chico High coach Abe Simmons said, “Sloppy offense and porous defense doomed the Panthers in the fourth quarter.”

Chico (0-2) plays next at 5 p.m. Thursday against Damonte Ranch in the West Park Tournament.

Gridley 54, Lindhurst 38: Gridley won on the road Tuesday night. Aaron Kullar led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points. Ashton Stokes had 11 points, and Michael Sanchez and Tyler Farr had nine points each.

Stokes made three 3-pointers and coach Anthony Ellis credited him with outstanding defensive play.

Gridley (1-1) plays next at 3 p.m. Thursday against Los Molinos in the Durham Tournament.

Prep girls basketball

Pleasant Valley 75, River Valley 33: PV won on the road Tuesday night.

Freshman Maddux Wilson led the Vikings in scoring with 15 points, AJ Gambol had 10 points, and Ava Dunn and Caitlyn Vickery had nine points each.

PV (2-2) plays next at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against McClatchy in the Davis Tournament.

Prep girls soccer

Chico High 2, Inderkum 0: Chico High won its road matchup Tuesday night.

Priscilla Ward scored both goals for the Panthers. Ward’s first goal was dribbled in and shot past the Inderkum goalkeeper, and the second was shot past the goalkeeper following a handball in the box.

Chico (2-0) plays next at 7:15 p.m. against Golden Sierra in the Nevada Union Tournament.

Rocklin 3, Pleasant Valley 0: Pleasant Valley lost on the road Tuesday. The Vikings trailed 1-0 at halftime before allowing two goals in the second half.

Goalkeeper Kennedy Arntzen recorded 10 saves in net.

PV (0-1) plays next at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home against Whitney.

Hamilton 1, Colusa 0: The Hamilton girls soccer team won in its season opener Tuesday night in Hamilton.

Paulina Flores scored the lone goal for the Braves and Hamilton goalkeeper Ximena Hernandez recorded eight saves in the shutout.

Hamilton (1-0) plays next at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at home against Gridley.
