Paradice on Ice Rink reopens for winter season

The Paradise on Ice Rink is back in business.

After being closed for more than a year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the park, which opened Thursday, will be open through Jan. 17.

The park is opening seven days a week and general admission is $12, which includes skates.

Visitor Ann Mertens came to the ice rink eight years ago when the Ice Rink opened for the first time.

“All of us put skates on whether we could skate or not,” Mertins said. “It was fun.”

The ice rink is friendly to beginners and provides skating lessons for children and adults. A detailed list of hours and pricing can be found at

The rink is managed by the Paradise Recreation and Park District, who will also be managing a few events throughout the winter season.

On Nov. 27, the rink is having a free skating day for the public featuring live music, Pinewood Derby races, craft brews, and a car show sponsored by Courtesy Motors Subaru.

On Dec. 4 there will be a Christmas countdown celebration featuring music, ornament crafting, tree lighting, and Santa’s arrival.

And the Chico Yule Logs band will be performing nearby at the Terry Ashe Recreation Center on Dec. 11 and Dec. 18.

The Chico Ice Rink located at the Chico City Plaza will also be opening next Friday.

“I think whatever they’re gonna do [in Chico] for the community is fantastic,” said Kevin Peake, maintenance employee for Paradise Recreation and Park District. “But we’re the best ice rink in California.”
