NFL Week 8 picks: 49ers treated to Halloween win over Bears; Cardinals still rule NFC

Long story short, here are my NFL picks for Week 8:

49ers 27, Bears 17: Jimmy Garoppolo dresses up for Halloween like the 2017 Garoppolo who took over the 49ers’ starting job with a win back then at Soldier Field. Line: 49ers -4

Cardinals 33, Packers 17: And the NFC playoffs’ No. 1 seed goes to … an undefeated team seeking Arizona’s first postseason trip since 2015? No Davante Adams for Aaron Rodgers (sneak preview for 2022). Line: Cardinals -6 1/2

Falcons 25, Panthers 24: Kyle Pitts, drafted one spot after the 49ers took Trey Lance, already has more receiving yards (471) than any tight end in NFL history through six career games. Line: Panthers +3

Bengals 28, Jets 13: Ja’Marr Chase, drafted two spots after Lance, already has more receiving yards (754) than any player in NFL history after seven games. Line: Bengals -10 1/2

Lions 26, Eagles 24: Hey, Detroit, come see the only teams who’ve lost to the 49ers this season! Line: Lions +3 1/2

Bills 33, Dolphins 20: The Bills have led at halftime in an NFL-record 15 consecutive games. Make it 16 with this one. If the Dolphins’ trade for Deshaun Watson falls through, are they committed enough to coach Brian Flores to arrange a reunion with Garoppolo from their Patriots days? Line: Dolphins +13 1/2

Steelers 23, Browns 21: Mike Tomlin insists no college booster can write “a big enough blank check” to woo him from the Steelers. Has an NFL head coach ever emitted such job-security confidence? (Angry 49ers fans immediately think of Kyle Shanahan.) Line: Steelers +3 1/2

Rams 37, Texans 17: The Rams swapped quarterbacks with the right franchise, culling Matthew Stafford out of Detroit nearly two months before Deshaun Watson’s trouble surfaced in Houston. Line: Rams -14 1/2

Titans 30, Colts 16: Derrick Henry hitting 1,000 yards already?! He needs just 131 yards against the Colts, who yielded 57 to the 49ers’ Elijah Mitchell in last Sunday’s opening drive. Line: Titans +1

Chargers 27, Patriots 20: Mac Jones vs. Justin Herbert will be this generation’s Tom Brady vs. Peyton Manning. Or did Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen already call dibs? Line: Chargers -5 1/2

Seahawks 26, Jaguars 21: This is the longest Seattle has waited for its first home win since its Kingdome days in 1992. Line: Seahawks -3

Broncos 20, Washington 16: Always pick the team in orange on Halloween, especially one with a returning Jerry Jeudy. Line: Broncos -3

Bucs 28, Saints 16: Jameis Winston, the Bucs’ No. 1 overall pick in 2015, is a gracious host in New Orleans for his former employer. Line: Bucs -6

Cowboys 35, Vikings 10: Dallas hasn’t dominated Minnesota like this since the 1989 Herschel Walker trade. Line: Cowboys -2

Chiefs 29, Giants 21: Patrick Mahomes has another case of the Mondays, which, for him, means he wins. He entered 6-1 on that stage. Line: Giants +10

Last week: 9-4 straight up, 4-9 against the spread

Season: 63-44 straight up, 45-61-1 against the spread
