Letter: Mean spirits just in time for the holidays

Nothing says “Merry Christmas to All” like an unsightly temporary fence around Chico’s downtown plaza.

The fencing surrounds far more area than necessary to keep people from using the ice rink without paying. It seems to be a quite blatant measure to keep people from camping out on the plaza. I personally don’t like to see makeshift tents on the plaza either, because they also don’t exactly create a family friendly holiday scene.

I don’t have a solution beyond what has already been discussed in many variations. The tents meanwhile have unsurprisingly shifted to areas in front of city hall, which seems to be the appropriate response.

So now we have two eyesores and the plaza looks like a catastrophe largely due to what appear to be mean spirited decisions of our city’s leadership.
