COVID-19 restrictions in place for Chico State basketball attendance

CHICO — When fans attend men’s and women’s basketball games at Chico State in 2021, 100% fan attendance will be allowed. But some things will be different than in years past, according to the Chico State Athletics department.

Chico State women’s basketball tips off its regular season Friday in the California Collegiate Athletic Association/PacWest Challenge hosted by the Wildcats. Chico State will play Fresno Pacific at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Sonoma State and Dominican will open the tournament at 5:30 p.m. at Acker Gym. The Wildcats’ women’s team will play their second game of the opening challenge at 3 p.m. Saturday against Dominican.

The Chico State men’s team opens its regular season schedule at noon Friday against Azusa Pacific at the Conference Crossover Challenge in Pomona. The Wildcat men will have their home opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Academy of Art.

On Friday and Saturday, the most notable difference for Chico State home games will be that all fans age 12 and older who enter Acker Gymnasium will be required to show proof of their fully-vaccinated status status for COVID-19 or provide a negative test result administered by a health care professional from within 72 hours of the start of the event.

Fans may show proof of vaccination with their COVID-19 vaccination card, a printed photo of the vaccination card or a photo of one’s vaccination card stored on a phone or electronic device. Also being accepted as proof is a digital record that includes a QR code and displays the patient name, date of birth, vaccine dates and vaccine type.

To show proof of a negative COVID-19 test fans must provide a digital or paper copy of the negative test, or a photo of the fan’s negative test results. Home rapid tests will not be accepted, according to Chico State Athletics.

Mask requirement

All fans ages 2 and over are required to wear a mask covering one’s nose and mouth at all times inside of Acker Gymnasium, except when actively eating or drinking. Masks for children under the age of 2 are optional.

Approved face masks include KN95, N95, cloth and surgical masks. Bandanas, gaiters and masks with ventilators are not permitted. If a fan arrives with a mask that is not on the approved list, Chico State will provide the fan with a disposable mask.

“The purchase of your game ticket(s) is acknowledgement that you understand these policies and agree to follow them,” Chico State said in a press release.

For fans’ convenience, hand sanitizer stations can be located in the Acker Gym lobby and restrooms.
