Chico, PV volleyball seasons end in opening round of state playoffs | Local roundup

The Pleasant Valley volleyball team ended its season Tuesday with a 3-0 road loss to Redwood High School. The No. 15 seed Vikings lost 25-15, 25-18, 25-11 in the opening round of the Division II CIF State Championships.

The No. 2 seed Redwood High School will now play the No. 7 seed Castilleja High School at 6 p.m. Thursday. Castilleja defeated Tracy High School 3-0 Tuesday.

Senior Emma Daugherty led the Vikings in kills Tuesday with seven and ended the season with a team high 299 kills. Senior Delaney Thau had five kills and was second on the team in kills with 194. The other senior on the team, Kenna Chapin, led PV in aces with three. Thau led the Vikings in aces with 94, Daugherty had 81 aces and Chapin had 64 aces.

Junior Alli Mimbs had 19 assists Tuesday and a team-high 459 throughout the season. Junior Keira Maguire had 321 and Thau had 279.

Thau led PV in digs with 12, Chapin had 10 and Daugherty had eight. Chapin led in digs for the season with 380, Daugherty had 361 and Thau had 353.

Whitney 3, Chico High 1: The No. 15 seed Chico High lost Tuesday at the No. 2 seed Whitney in the opening round of the Division III CIF State Championships.

Whitney will now play No. 7 Santa Cruz at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Senior Carly McPherson led Chico High in kills with 21 and senior Madison Struthers had nine. McPherson and junior Maya Cann had two aces each. Cann helped set up the offense with 32 assists. On defense Cann led in digs with 11 and Kaya Gibbs had 10 digs.

College men’s soccer

Butte 8, College of the Siskiyous 0: Butte defeated Siskiyous on a flooded field at home Tuesday.

Quintin Benn John had three goals, William Ours and Romain Jantcheu had two goals each, and Jose Galla had one goal. Connor Pew and Jovanni Casillas had two assists each. Adolfo Martinez, Trevor Sander, Alex Strom and Thierry Honou had one assist each.

Butte goalkeeper Sabri Couasnon had three saves to earn the shutout.

Butte (12-3-2, 6-1-1 Golden Valley Conference) plays next at 11 a.m. Thursday at home against College of the Redwoods.
