Celebrate the holidays in Butte County

With the holidays here, it is not too late to enjoy some community events. Here are a number of options for families, kids and adults for the holiday season in Butte County.

Dinners, parties, celebrations

Today, The Oroville Rescue Mission will be offering a dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at El Medio Fire Department located at 3515 Myers St. It will have to-go dinner boxes and Santa Claus is expected to be there to greet the kids. Toys will be given to children on a first come, first serve basis until the toys run out. The child needs to be present to receive a gift.

Ice skating

Paradise on Ice Rink is open until Jan. 17, 2022. Its hours are Monday through Thursday 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday noon to 8 p.m., Saturday noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday noon to 8 p.m. Daily admission is $12 and includes skates. The ice rink is located at the Terry Ashe Recreation Center.

The Chico Ice Rink in the Plaza will be open until Jan. 9, 2022. General admission is $12 with a skate rental for adults. For children 12 years and younger, admission is $9 with a skate rental. Tickets can be purchased online at https://chicoice.simpletix.com.

Christmas tree pick up

On Jan. 8, Local Boy Scout Troop 2 will be collecting and recycling Christmas trees in Chico for fish habitat. Trees should be by the curbside by 8 a.m. to be picked up by 3 p.m.

Flocked trees, wreaths or ornaments are not allowed to remain on the trees.

The troop is also accepting donations on its website. To register for the pick up visit www.troop2chico.com by Jan. 3.

Santa at the mall

Santa’s last day at his holiday workshop is today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. located next to American Eagle at the Chico Marketplace.
