49ers rule out two more defensive starters for Halloween game at Bears

CHICAGO — Make that four defensive starters who won’t suit up for the 49ers in Sunday’s visit to the Chicago Bears.

Defensive end Dee Ford and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair were downgraded Saturday to out after not getting cleared through the NFL’s concussion protocol.

The 49ers’ defense also saw safety Jaquiski Tartt (knee bruise) and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (knee surgery) put on injured reserve; Tartt is out at least three games and Kinlaw is done for the season.

Defensive end Jordan Willis (six-game suspension served) and defensive tackle Kevin Givens (injured reserve) were activated, as were two from the practice squad, tight end Jordan Matthews and safety Kai Nacua.

The Bears, meanwhile, ruled out coach Matt Nagy because of a positive COVID test Monday that’s kept him away from the team all week. Rookie tackle Larry Borom was activated off injured reserve.
