49ers pregame: Left tackle Trent Williams returns; rookie cornerback Thomas still benched

CHICAGO — Jimmy Garoppolo’s return to Chicago will come with Trent Williams returning to cover his blindside.

Williams, the NFL’s highest-paid left tackle, will return from a one-game absence and play on an ankle injury the kept him out of practice most of the past two weeks.

Williams’ status was the 49ers’ biggest health concern entering the game, although defensive end Samson Ebukam (ankle) also was listed as questionable and also is suiting up today.

Already ruled out through Saturday were cornerback Deommodore Lenoir (personal reasons), defensive end Dee Ford (concussion), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (concussion) and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf).

Also out are cornerback Ambry Thomas, wide receiver Travis Benjamin and guard Aaron Banks, the latter of whom suited up for the first time last game but has yet to make his NFL debut.

Other pregame notes:

— Defensive end Jordan Willis will make his season debut after serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He had 2 1/2 sacks last season after arriving in a trade from the New York Jets.

— Defensive tackle Kevin Givens returns after sustaining a high ankle sprain in Week 2 at Philadelphia.

— Thomas is inactive for the fifth game of his rookie season, and the third-round pick hasn’t played a defensive snap since nine in the season opener. Lenoir was ruled out Saturday night; he stayed in the Bay Area to attend the birth of his child.

— The Bears will suit up all five players they listed as questionable: defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (groin), safety Tashaun Gipson (hip), wide receiver Jakeem Grant (ankle), tight end Jesper Horsted (knee), and linebacker Sam Kamara (knee)

— Out for the Bears are linebackers Khalil Mack and Caleb Johnson, defensive back Artie Burns, quarterback Nick Foles, and wide receiver Breshad Perriman.
