49ers pregame: Deebo Samuel returns to face Bengals in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI — Deebo Samuel is suiting up for the 49ers today after missing last Sunday’s loss in Seattle because of a groin strain.

Samuel accounts for 10 of the team’s 36 touchdowns this season, and more of that production could be needed to keep pace with a Bengals offense that figures to attack the 49ers’ injury-depleted cornerback unit.

With Emmanuel Moseley (ankle) and Dontae Johnson (personal matter) unavailable, the 49ers are expected to give rookie cornerback Ambry Thomas his first career start, though Deommodore Lenoir also could see action along with veteran starter Josh Norman and nickel back K’Waun Williams.

Thomas has played 20 defensive snaps all season, nine in the opener at Detroit and 11 last month at Jacksonville.

Johnson was downgraded to out on Saturday, when the 49ers also put Moseley on injured reserve along with Trenton Cannon, who sustained a concussion on last game’s opening kickoff.

Leading rusher Elijah Mitchell (concussion, knee) was ruled out Friday along with linebacker Dre Greenlaw (groin) and defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf). Also out are linebacker Tyrell Adams and offensive lineman Colton McKivitz.

Jeff Wilson Jr. is expected to start at running back.

Called up Saturday from the practice squad are cornerback Saivion Smith (No. 14), wide receiver River Cracraft (No. 13), running back Brian Hill (No. 35) and safety Jarrod Wilson (No. 30).

Out for the Bengals are wide receiver Trenton Irwin, running back Chris Evans, linebacker Markus Bailey, linebacker Logan Wilson, tackle Fred Johnson, defensive end Khalid Kareem, and defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin.
